Traffic Calming on Mission Bay Blvds North and South

In March, MTA approved specific plans to calm traffic on Mission Bay Blvds North and South along with synthesized results of their Q4 2025 community survey.

MTA will be upgrading the existing 2-way stop intersections into all-way stop intersections, installing mid-block speed tables on the Blvd between 6th and 4th streets, and creating painted "safety zones" at the intersections to improve pedestrian visibility in three locations.

We expect that this Quick Build construction will take place during the summer and be completed prior to the first kindergarteners starting school in August 2026.

Traffic Circle Redesign

Our committee has been engaged with The San Francisco County Transportation Authority on developing more pedestrian and bike safe designs for the traffic circle in Mission Bay.  This is a larger project, so it will not be completed prior to August 2026 though we sure hope the design is finalized by that time.  We also remain hopeful that bike safety improvements could become possible for turning from 7th onto Mission Bay Drive to approach the traffic circle.  â€‹

We expect that there will be a community meeting to see SFCTA's latest roundabout design in May 2026.

Pedestrian-safe stop sign for 6th & Nelson Rising Lane

Our A clear

The stop sign and pedestrian crosswalk on east side of Nelson Rising Lane are backwards.  Cars drive over the crosswalk to get to the stop sign.  UCSF maintains Nelson Rising Lane and our subcommittee is engaged with UCSF in seeking improvements to make this intersection logical for the benefit of both cars and families on foot.

As of March, UCSF has engaged a design team and traffic consultant.  They are working on preliminary designs and hope to share more with the community in April.
